What is a Medium?
So, what exactly is a medium anyway? Well, according to Allen Kardec, who wrote The Book on Mediums in 1874, a medium is, "Every person who feels, in any degree whatever, the influences of the spirits," and we are not speaking about alcohol here. What this means is that a medium is someone who feels or perceives energy beyond the normal five senses. A medium is someone who is open to the idea that you can hear messages from those who have passed away, spirit guides, angels, and your God source.
Does my religion matter?
People of different religious faiths may truly believe that being a medium or psychic investigations are wrong. I truly believe that in order to make that assumption, you need to ask yourself some tough questions. If the concept of being a medium or having a psychic investigation goes against the grain of your religious beliefs, you need to discuss the matter with your religious leader. Ask questions, and see if the responses for or against the idea seem just and rational. If you are uncomfortable with the thought of a medium or psychic investigation, it is not time for you to delve into the subject. You must be comfortable with the concept of mediumship or be open to the chance that there may be more than meet's the eye in this world of ours before you start your investigative journey.
What if nobody in my circle of family or friends believes
my paranormal claim?
When you defend your beliefs to others who disagree with you, it is imperative to remain rooted in understanding. It is hard to avoid anger when others attack you, but it is necessary to remain calm. If you have faith in yourself and your beliefs, walk away from the situation and leave it for another time. You do not have to defend yourself; it is not required to prove yourself or your beliefs to anyone other than yourself. If your mind is full of any one idea, there is no room for anything else than that one idea. You cannot take it personally. We all agree to disagree about politics, sports, religion etc, this should be no different.

Why is CPD unique?
Many other paranormal groups exist. For the most part, they have good intentions. They are however comprised of curious people from all walks of life. You may have a waitress, cab driver, garbage man, dentist, or school teacher show up to conduct an investigation. These groups are staffed by amatuer investigators or hobbyists. Chicago Paranormal Detectives is the only paranormal research group staffed by current, certified, full time Police Officers. Credibility is what our primary profession requires. We conduct investigations for a living. We can not afford to make false assumptions. We require absolute certainty and hard evidence to determine paranormal activity exists.
